Paktong Brazier

Second Half 18th Century


Circular body pierced with a band of pales and foliate motifs, the rim with three folding spade-shaped rests to support dishes of different sizes, with screw-attached pierced liner, raised on three  scroll supports with bun terminals and with elongated straight turned wood handle

The style of this brazier is taken from silver examples made in Holland and France. American examples were made by such makers as  John Coney and Jacob Hurd.. Nine  by Jacob , including two pairs, are listed in Hollis French Jacob Hurd and his sons Nathanlel   & Benjamin  Silversmiths 1702-1781 , 1909.
