the stepped carved agate lid surmounted with a carnelian-coloured hardstone finial, the silver-gilt mounts enamelled with leafy scrollwork including serpents, snails and fruit in late 17th century taste, the baluster stem with green enamel borders around carnelian-coloured stone, the circular base with traces of painted gold foliage and a zig-zag mount around the bevelled edge, apparently unmarked,
