Etel Adnan was known as a prolific visual artist, as well as a poet, novelist, and journalist whose critiques of war and social injustice were unflinching. Her paintings and etchings–despite their modest scale and formal economy–remain potent visualizations of the sensations of memory and momentary perception that shape impressions of the human condition experienced through time. The highly spiritual and multicultural influences that dominate her work often manifest themselves as artifacts of the ambiguous relationship between nature and art.
Adnan’s work has been the subject of exhibitions at Sfeir-Semler Gallery, Hamburg; Callicoon Replica Handbags s, New York; and the Guggenheim, New York among others.
