The hugely popular 101 Dalmatians first came out as an animated film in 1961. It was later presented again as a movie in 1996. The main difference between the two is that none of the animals speaks in the later one. They were both inspired by a 1956 novel “The Hundred and One Dalmatians” by Dodie Smith. Faithful to the joy and fun of the Dalmatians puppies, Gérald Genta used one of them to adorn the dial. The tail is used as the retrograde minute hand, bringing the Dalmatian to life and adding an extra amusing detail to his creation.
