A Charles II embroidered and metal-thread pictorial panel, circa 1660


worked in various stitches, including relief worked motifs, worked in detached buttonhole stitched elements, for example parrot wings, and butterfly wings, centred with a lady seated at a table playing a lute, flanked by two oak trees, and surrounded by various islands with animals and birds, including a lion, deer, kingfisher and parrot, against a cream coloured satin ground, sprinkled with tiny seed pearls, within a later glazed, ebonised japanned frame, decorated with buildings in landscapes, birds and insects

approximately: Frame: 38cm high, 49cm wide, 3cm deep; 1ft 2in, 1ft 7in, 1 1/4 in.

Textile visible: 42cm wide, 31cm deep; 1ft 4in, 1ft.
