Description
A Kakiemon style dish
Edo period, late 17th century
the deep moulded foliate rimmed dish decorated in underglaze blue with a Chinese courtier and attendant, standing on the opposite bank a lady holding a fan beneath pampas, a lone fisherman on the waters beneath, the reverse with a cursive Fuku mark, six spur marks
27 cm., 10¾ in. diam.
This design was copied at the end of the eighteen century in Delftware and Loosdrecht-Amstel porcelain. Jörg illustrates a Delft faience vase and cover in the Groninger Museum with a variant of the design from Twickel Castle, Delden, see Christian J. A. Jörg, Fine & Curious: Japanese Export Porcelain in Dutch Collections, (The Netherlands, 2003), pg. 143, fig. 157B.
