Edo - Meiji period, 19th century


each a woodblock print, triptych, and comprising:


- Famous Places in the East: The Ancient Incident of Umewaka and the Child Seller beside the Sumida River (Azuma meisho sumidagawa umewaka no furugoto), the left sheet signed and sealed Taiso Yoshitoshi, published by Akiyama Buemon (Kokkeido), 1883

- Fire: Sassa Narimasa During a Protracted Battle in Kyushu (Hi: Sassa Narimasa Kyushu nansen no zu), from the series Heroes and the Five Elements (Eiyu gogyo no uchi), each sheet signed Ikkaisai Yoshitoshi hitsu (Brush of Ikkaisai Yoshitoshi), and with artist's paulownia seal, censor's seal aratame (certified), published by Kiya Sojiro (Kobokudo), 9th month 1867

 

Vertical oban triptych:

each sheet approx. 37 x 25.1 cm., 14½ x 10 in. (the first);
