oval, the lid set with an earlier oval glazed portrait miniature of a young man resembling the young Louis XVI, painted on ivory, on translucent blue enamel ground over lozenge and pellet engine-turning within sablé gold borders, framed by engraved scrollwork border on a reeded ground enamelled in dark blue, the sides decorated with hexagonal basse-taille enamel panels with musical, military or gardening trophies, on a matted ground, the dividers formed of a chased double Doric column, entrelac-de-rubans border, the base centred with an oval enamel medallion representing cupid’s quiver and bow and a harp in classic landscape, the rim signed: Drais a Paris, French prestige marks including maker’s mark, charge and discharge mark of Prevost, Paris date letter, later French control marks, the left rim numbered: 382
