Bertha Dorph née Green studied under Harald Slott-Møller (lot 119) and Peter Ilsted (lots 113 and 115) in Copenhagen. She spent a year in Berlin studying etching. Her earlier works often depicted family life and children and later she focused on landscapes, portraits and flowers. Dorph also worked as a designer and together with her husband, Niels Vinding Dorph ran an art school. Notably in 1916, she became a member of the newly founded Society of Female Artists in Denmark alongside Marie Henriques, Helvig Kinch, Anna Ancher and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen.
