A George II Silver Shell-Form Basket, John Hugh Le Sage, London, Circa 1746
the fluted shell-shaped bowl partly pierced with diaper and symmetrical scrollwork, the applied rim cast with trailing flowers , scrolls and shellwork, on three scroll supports chased with a flowerhead on matted ground and topped by cartouches, the flying leafy scroll handle wrapped with a characterful dolphin, the underside engraved with contemporary arms, marked underneath, date letter part visible probably 1746

The husband’s arms have not been identified, but those of his wife are Remington or Rennington. Interestingly they are charged with a dolphin embowed, which may have prompted the selection of this design of basket.
