Philostratus
Les images ou tableaux de platte peintre des deux Philostrates sophistes grecs et les statues de Callistrate mis en françois par Blaise de Vigenere Bourbonnois enrichis d'arguments et annotations, reveus et corrigez sur l'original par un docte personnage. Paris: the widow of Abel l'Angelier and the widow of Mathieu Guillemot, 1615 (2 January 1614)
folio (418 x 275mm.), engraved title-page, engraved and woodcut headpieces, woodcut initials and tailpieces, engraved illustrations (by Jaspar Isaac, one by L. Gaultier after Antoine Caron and dated 1609), with additional leaves signed EEe1, SSs1 and DDdd4 bound at the appropriate place (to supply the omitted engravings), without final blank leaf, contemporary red morocco gilt, spine gilt in compartments, gilt edges, later slipcase, joints and hinges repaired, spine repaired at head, small cracks to joints
The first illustrated edition; copies are also recorded with the dated 1614 on the title-page. Blaise de Vigenère's translation and interpretation of the images of Philostratus the Athenian and Philostratus the Lemnian was first printed in 1578. The fine engravings for this edition were commissioned by the printers L'Angelier and Guillemot before they both died in the first half of 1610.
