This photograph was originally in the collection of Patricia English, to whom the print is inscribed. English was Adams' lab assistant during the summer of 1936, during preparations for Ansel Adams: Exhibition of Photographs, his one-man show at Alfred Stieglitz's gallery An American Place (October - November 1936).
