Description
Jacob Ferdinand Voet
Antwerp 1639 - 1689 Paris
Portrait of a gentleman in armour
oil on copper
8.2 x 6.4 cm.; 3¼ x 2½ in.
This miniature portrait by Voet was probably executed circa 1685 when the artist was working in France, as the sitter's bow would appear to suggest. It may be compared with the Portrait of Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, in the Museo del Prado, Madrid (inv. no. P002294),1 or the Portrait of a young man at the Musée Joseph Déchelette, Roanne (inv. no. 9).2
We are grateful to Francesco Petrucci for endorsing the attribution to Voet, on the basis of digital images.
