The Property of a European Collector

A zaboshi kabuto [helmet with seated rivets] 

Edo Period 17th - 18th century


the thirty-two plate iron bowl with fine seated rivets in the form of stylised chrysanthemum heads, terminating in a five-stage tehen kanamono, fitted with a copper so-fukurin and igaki pierced with boar's eye (inome) openings, plain black lacquer mabisashi [peak] with silver fukurin, the fukigaeshi [turnbacks] chased and engraved with plum blossom, the black lacquer shikoro [neck guard] of five-tiers with kebiki odoshi [close-spaced lacing] in blue, purple and orange braid


The shikoro to peak: 32.5 cm., 12¾ in.
