A nimai-do gusoku [armour] 

Edo period, 18th – 19th century


the eight-plate iron kabuto with raised ridges and applied large hemispherical protrusions simulating rivets, plain russet iron mabisashi [peak], the fukigaeshi [turnbacks] with gilt omodaka mon [three-leaf arrowhead crests], the four-tier kittsuke-zane shikoro [neck guard] with close-spaced iro-iro odoshi [variegated lacing] in light orange and green braid, the gilt maedate [forecrest] in the form of a horned shikami, the russet iron mempo with detachable nose plate and broad yak hair moustache, the mouth ajar with red lacquer upper lip and silver lacquered teeth, red lacquer interior, five-tier yodaregake [throat protector], with nodawa [throat guard], the do [cuirass] hinged in two parts, all suspended components of gold-lacquered kittsuke-zane with kebiki-odoshi [close-laced] in light orange and green braid, the gyoyo [shoulder strap covers] with further omodaka mon, chainmail hyotan-gote [sleeves with gourd-shaped embellishments], shino suneate [shin guards], black lacquered Iyo haidate [underskirt], with an armour storage box and modern armour stand


Accompanied by a certificate of registration Tokubetsu Kicho Shiryo [Especially Important Object] by the Nihon Katchu Bugu Kenkyu Hozon-kai [The Association for the Research and Preservation of Japanese Helmets and Armour], dated Heisei 8 (1996)
