A nerikawa nimai-do gusoku [armour]

 Edo period, 18th-19th century


the lacquered bowl simulating a russet iron kabuto with raised ridges, the mabisashi [peak] and fukigaeshi [turnbacks] of stenciled Dutch leather decorated with cherry blossoms and foliage, the turnbacks with applied gilt myoga mon [ginger crests], the four tiered shikoro [neck guard] of red lacquered iron and with kebiki odoshi [close-spaced lacing] in dark blue braid, the helmet bowl with yak hair decoration, gilt kuwagata, dark red lacquer hanbo [half mask] with prominent jaw, hammered cheekbones and wrinkles, three-tier yodare-gake [throat protector] comprised of honkozane [true lamellae] plates, the do [cuirass] hinged in two pieces, all components of red-lacquered kitssuke-zane [false lamallae] in kebiki-odoshi and dark blue braid, six-tier sode [shoulder guards], seven tassets of five-tier kusazuri [skirt] with horse hair bristle edging, chainmail kote [sleeves] decorated in blue and gold brocade with floral roundels, the tekko [gauntlets] with further gilt myoga mon, the underskirt in brocade and kittsuke-zaneshino suneate [shin guards], with an armour storage box and modern armour stand
