A small group of 'Grand Tour Souvenirs', after the antique, 19th century


comprising; two carved pendants, one hardstone with intaglio decoration with one ceramic in the form of a scarab (with fittings 23mm. and 27mm.); a carnelian intaglio fob seal in the form of a scarab with wire support (hardstone 20mm); and a polished 'fragment' engraved Pompeii later mounted as a brooch, the reverse engraved 'Dug up by J. C. P. / 1857' (20mm.) together with a gilt-metal pendant in the form of a condor (35mm. long)

Some of the group possibly Juliet Adam, neé Palmer, (1857-1927) and Charles Fox Frederick Adam (1852-1913);
Thence by descent.
Charles Adam's career as a diplomat was varied and allowed for foreign travel, and collecting. He held a number of important postings which included, Secretary of Legation, Brazil, 1888-1892; Secretary of Legation, Belgium, 1892-1897; Secretary of Embassy, U.S.A., 1897-1898; and Secretary of Embassy (Counsellor), Spain, 1898-1905.
