Description
The Karate Kid (1984) Poster, US, Signed by Ralph Macchio 'Banzai Daniel San' and Pat Morita 'Wax on wax off!'
Unframed: 41 x 27 in. (104 x 69 cm)
When Mr. Sohal met Pat Morita he asked that he add the quote 'wax on wax off' to his autograph, which amused Mr. Morita. When Mr. Sohal asked Ralph Macchio to autograph this same poster after Pat Morita's death, he looked a little sad, but then smiled when he saw Pat Morita's quote. Mr. Sohal asked him if he wouldn't mind adding something too, which he very kindly did.
It is rare for anyone to have an original poster signed, as the majority of signatures are on pieces of paper, photographs, and video/DVD sleeves.
This martial arts film was directed by John G. Avildsen and was the first installment in the Karate Kid franchise. The cast includes Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, and Elisabeth Shue. Teenager Daniel (Ralph Macchio) and his mum have recently moved from New York to California. Daniel doesn't fit in with the local surfer crowd and gets bullied by a group of boys from a local karate club. During one fight he is cornered by a group of boys and beaten up. Miyagi (Pat Morita), an elderly handyman at the apartment where he lives, sees what is happening and comes to his aid, and fights off the teenagers. Miyagi tries to resolve the bullying by speaking to the other boys' karate teacher, who isn't interested in resolving matters. However, he does agree to the boys refraining from bullying Daniel while he is in training for a karate tournament. Now Daniel must learn the art of karate, and lucky for him, Miyagi is a martial arts master.
