This American war film was written and directed by Oliver Stone, and the cast includes Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, Charlie Sheen, Keith David, Kevin Dillon, John C. McGinley, Forest Whitaker, and Johnny Depp. Stone based the film on his own experience of the Vietnam War. This was the first Hollywood film to be written and directed by a Vietnam War veteran. This film was the first of the trilogy of Vietnam War films directed by Stone (Born on the Fourth of July - 1989 and Heaven & Earth -1993).
