Portrait of Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658)
Enamel on gold, the counter enamel painted with a landscape, gold bezel
22 by 19 mm.
This portrait of Cromwell is curious in that he is depicted wearing a plumed hat more associated with the royalists. The gold chain about his neck is unusual but can be compared with that seen in a portrait of Cromwell, attributed to the studio of Robert Walker, sold at Cheffins, Cambridge, 28 November 2018, lot 143.
