Wièse | Silver-Gilt and Garnet Bracelet, France

Centering sculpted cherub musicians and harp players, decorated with foliate motifs and cabochon garnets, gross weight approximately 51 dwts, length 6½ inches, with French assay and maker's mark for Jules Wièse; circa 1850. With exhibition catalogue.

The Duke University Museum of Art, From Slave to Siren, Durham, North Carolina, May 1971.
Illustrated in From Slave to Siren by Dora Jane Janson, page 21, figure 12, catalogue numbers 36-37.
This bracelet was published in an exhibition catalogue by Dora Jane Janson entitled From Slave to Siren: The Victorian Woman and her Jewelry from Neoclassic to Art Nouveau, May 1971, The Duke University of Art, Durham North Carolina. Refer to the section on Renaissance Revival, pp. 21-22, no. 36, Fig. 12. According to Janson, Jules Wièse’s initials marked on the bracelet suggest that he made it while still employed by François-Désiré Froment-Meurice, at a time when Renaissance-Revival themes were at the height of popularity.
