These commodes adopting sober clean lines, a serpentine bombé front and sides with the added twist of inlaid geometric motifs are an important example of Neapolitan cabinet-making in the third quarter of the 18th century. Reflecting the transition in Naples from the rococo style to the neoclassical style, the sophisticated and here stained inlaid decoration, especially around the keyhole and inside the triangles on the sides, is particularly noteworthy. Related examples are illustrated in A.
