A pale green jadeite gu-form vase

Early 20th century

二十世紀初 翠玉雕仿古饕餮紋活環花觚


of lozenge section, the bulging midsection carved with archaistic taotie between a splayed pedestal foot and flaring trumpet neck each carved with stiff leaves against a leiwen ground, the foot and neck each set with a pair of loop handles suspending loose rings, the celadon stone variegated with apple-green and yellowish patches 


Height 6 ⅞ in., 17.7 cm

Collection of Mrs. Walter N. Rothschild (1896-1987).

Gifted to the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, in 1963 (acc. no. 63.6.17).
