The present services owe much to 18th century Meissen porcelain decorated with Dutch pastoral landscapes after engravings by Jan de Visscher and his followers and hunting scenes after engravings by Johann Elias Ridinger and his school.  Hunting subjects were popular with 18th century patrons of the Meissen factory and frequently appear on garnitures of vases; the most prestigious of 18th century Meissen forms. See U. Pietsch, Porzellan Parforce Jagdliches Meißner Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts, Munich, 2005, p. 99, kat. nr. 60 for a vase, circa 1735 decorated by J. G. Heintze with "Parforcejagd auf den Hirsch", the same graphic source is used on the tray of the present service.
