Lot Details

Description

mounted, the mount approximately 164 by 65cm., the fragment approximately 151 by 54cm.

The present lot is closely related to and may be a fragment from the same carpet as the pieces illustrated as plate 11 in Yetkin, Şerare, Early Caucasian Carpets in Turkey, Vol. I, London, 1978, from the Mosque of Ali Paşa in Tokat, in northern Anatolia.  See also lot 270 in Replica Shoes 's London, June 10, 2020, another fragment of a dragon carpet, also from the Ali Paşa mosque in Tokat.  This latter piece would appear to have originally come from the immediate right hand side of this present lot.
