This portrait from the chateau of Pontchartrain, was made after a Greek original dating from the second century B.C. Various antique copies are preserved in the Capitoline Museum of Rome (inv. MC 0557), the British Museum (inv. 1805,0703.85), and the Louvre (inv. MR 530).

Provenant du château de Pontchartrain, ce portrait du célèbre poète grec auteur de l’Iliade et l’Odyssée (VIIIe siècle av. J.C.), s’inspire d’un original hellénistique datant du IIe siècle av. J.C., dont une vingtaine de bustes antiques sont conservés, notamment au Musée Capitolin de Rome (inv. MC 0557), au British Museum de Londres (inv. 1805,0703.85), ainsi qu’au Musée du Louvre (inv. MR 530).
