SPANISH SCHOOL, CIRCA 1780 | PORTRAIT OF AN ARTIST WITH HIS DOG IN A LANDSCAPE

Painted on a zinc panel and signed in red with a name that unfortunately is no longer legible, this painting seems to us to belong to the Spanish School, partly because of the young man’s outfit, with its short jacket, and partly because of the style of the work, which has some echoes of the art of Luis Paret y Alcazar, though the treatment of the painted surface is not as lively.

Peint sur une plaque de zinc et signée en rouge d’un nom qui malheureusement ne peut plus se lire, le tableau, nous semble revenir à l’école espagnole, aussi bien par le costume du jeune homme, avec sa veste courte, que par le style de l’œuvre, qui n’est pas sans évoquer l’art de Luis Paret y Alcazar, sans la matière vibrante de ce dernier.
