Larry Pristo, Martelé 950-1000 Fine Gorham's Nouveau Art Silver, 2002, p. 287.

According to Gorham's Martelé archives, this loving cup was completed October 3, 1902 and had a net factory price of $460. It took Henry H. Barker 110 hours to make, then another 170 hours of chasing by Robert Bain. The notes indicate it had gilding, probably to the interior.

Philip Washburn Moen (1857-1904) of Worcester, MA was the general manager and vice president of the Washburn & Moen Mfg. Co., and later vice president, director, and manager of the American Steel & Wire company. He retired in 1902, after which he devoted his time to the management of his properties, including his Shewsbury summer residence, Ard-na-Clachan, which he developed as a game preserve. He died suddenly of a stroke at age 47.
