This exceptional Portuguese bow-knot pendant compares closely with an example in the National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon (inv. no. 908 J). The latter is described as 'an exceptional example of a bow-knot pendant, of exquisite design... The blending of these two types of ornament, the bow and the cross, resulted in the typical Portuguese laça bow-knot used to this day with an infinite variety of designs (op. cit., p. 47).
