This charming and petite group is characteristic of late Gothic sculpture in and around Salzburg, where such representations of the Virgin and Child enthroned flourished. Compare a number of similar compositions from this area dating to the late 15th century (op. cit., nos. 216-218). A striking parallel for the Virgin's youthful and pointed facial features, with a downcast gaze and subtle smile, is seen in a Madonna from St Johann in den Tauern, now in the Liebieghaus, Frankfurt (op. cit., no. 250).
