Commissioned by the ancestors of the present owner, and thence by descent.

This lot and the preceding two each depict one of the three daughters of Robert Jones of Fonmon Castle, Glamorgan (d. 1715) and his wife Mary (née Edwin), who were married in 1703. Two of the sisters, Mary and Elizabeth, are portrayed in a conversation piece of the Jones family by William Hogarth, painted in 1730;presumably by then the third sister, whose name is not recorded, had married and thus was not included in this family portrait.
