The design for the present candelabra was very successful and popular throughout the late 18th century and 19th century. It is commonly said that the model for the figures are derived from a model by Claude Michel dit Clodion (1738-1814) and Louis-Félix de la Rue (1731-1765) which developed them in the 1770s. The model of the young satyr was created by Clodion while the young girl/putto by Louis-Félix de la Rue. Hans Ott.mes yer and Peter Pröschel, “Vergoldete Bronzen”, 1986, illustrate a candelabrum with a young girl by Louis Félix de La Rue (p. 210, colour pl. XXVIII). Clodion's terracotta model of a satyr is discussed in A. Poulet and G. Scherf, Clodion , Paris, 1992, pp. 136-149.

A related pair is in the Musée du Louvre (inv. no. OA5207-5208), illustrated, D. Alcouffe, A. Dion-Tennenbaum, G. Mabille, Gilt Bronzes in the Louvre, Dijon, 2004, p. 107, no. 48. A further similar pair of examples was sold at Sotheby's New York, 24 May 2007, lot 358.
