Description

A SEYMCHAN METEORITE CUBE

Seymchan, Magadan, Russia

3 x 3 cm. A very fine example, with perfectly cut edges displaying the fine iron nickel alloy on all six sides. Presented on a bronze base.

Seymchan is a pallasite meteorite which was discovered near the settlement of Seymchan in the Magadan district of Russia in 1967. Originally classified as a siderite IIE, it was reclassified as a pallasite after the discovery of peridot in its matrix. This fine example displays only the iron nickel matrix on all six sides of the cube, drawing out the the distinctive Widmanstätten figures.
