Related pottery sculptures powerfully modeled in the form of a dragon from this period appear to be rare, although a very close counterpart to the present lot is recorded. See a painted gray pottery dragon of similar size and detail, rendered in the same recumbent posture, attributed to the Six Dynasties, from the collects ion of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Brewster, now in the Walters Art Museum, Baltimore, acc. no. 49.2425. Compare also a Six Dynasties gilt-bronze dragon, cast in a striding stance with the head depicted in a very similar style, from the collects ion of Stephen Junkunc, III, sold in these rooms, 19th March 2019, lot 116.
