This pole screen remarkably retains the original paper label of the Philadelphia cabinetmaker Thomas Tufft. Very few pre-Revolutionary pieces of American furniture survive with their original labels. The presence of this label documents the wide diversity of objects a cabinetmaking shop like Tufft would make.
