A GERMAN GILT-COPPER MOUNTED COCONUT CUP AND COVER, POSSIBLY NUREMBERG, CIRCA 1550


coconut body and cover carved with three scenes of winged female personifcations of Temperance, Patience and Fidelity, interrupted by plain panels for the straps and accompanied by animals and within Gothic reserves and leafage, the gilt copper mounts, bracketed vase stem and circular moulded foot, engraved with arabesque scrolls, I motifs and strapwork on hatching, male figure with puffed sleeves finial, fitted inside cover with a similarly engraved disc, and engraved cyrillic lettering below the finial
