MUROMACHI PERIOD, 15TH CENTURY


of turned and assembled wood with a flat base and curved sides, resting on a tall foot, the red lacquer worn away in places revealing the black lacquer beneath, the base lacquered black

10.5 x 44.5 cm., 4 1/8 x 17 1/2 in.

The footed bowls similar to the above were used in the Negoro Temple for the serving of food. 

Similar examples are illustrated in Kawada Sadamu, Negoro (Kyoto, 1985), pls. 101 and 102.
