Description
[CROWLEY, ALEISTER]
White Stains. The Literary Remains of George Archibald Bishop. A Neuropath of the Second Empire. [Amsterdam: for (London): Leonard Smithers], 1898
4to (8 3/4 x 7 in.; 220 x 178 mm), original black cloth, lettered in white; losses to head- and tail-pieces, covers soiled, extremities rubbed, endpapers and half-title lightly toned.
One of Crowley's rarest books, first edition, copy number 27 of 100.
Published under the pseudonym "George Archibald Bishop," White Stains is a lyrical exploration of every conceivable sexual taboo, many copies of which were destroyed by British customs in 1924. A characteristically Crowleian celebration of obscenity.
