Folio (306 x 190 mm). Title printed in red and black, plate of coins and 12 plates of battles, military formations, sieges, etc., 8 of which folding; lacking frontispiece and one folding plate, title and one plate loose at top of gutter, marginal pen marking to one plate ("Cicero Besieged") some staining and foxing, dampstaining to upper margin, a few closed tears to final leaves. Full brown calf, spine with raised bands in six compartments, red gilt-lettered morocco label to second, edges speckled red; extremities rubbed, upper joint weak.
This translation was first published in 1600, and "this excellent and well-known exposition of Caesar was always popular" (Cockle 71). Translator Clement Edmonds "had a high reputation for learning and as a writer on military art" (DNB).
