First edition of Sanchez's important collection of medieval Castilian poetry

Sanchez's monumental undertaking of editing and printing Castilian medieval texts, nearly all of which published here for the first time. Contents include: Poema del Cid; Poesias de Don Gonzalo de Berceo; Poema de Alexandro Magno; and Poesias del Arcipreste de Hita.

"Sanchez' still irreplacable Coleccion contains the oldest Spanish poems, among them the Poema del Cid, the famous letter of the Marques de Santillana about the old Castilian poets, and other works which were published in his collection for the first time. He also tried to make them understandable by his introductions, commentaries, and glossaries" (Groeber, Grundriss).
