A PAIR OR GUILD OF HANDICRAFT SILVER-PLATED COPPER VEGETABLE DISHES AND COVERS, DESIGNED BY C. R. ASHBEE, CIRCA 1900
Oval with ivory finials attached by chain link to foliate bosses, the pierced handles in the form of fruiting vine leaves, on four small ball supports

Arthur Currer Briggs (1855-1906), Mayor of the City of Leeds (1903-04) and Alderman of the City of Leeds (1904-06), whose holiday home Broad Leys overlooking lake Windermere was designed by Charles Voysey.

For the design see C.R Ashbee, Modern English Silverwork, London, 1909, pl.44 where the ‘Vegetable dish and Cover’ is fitted with a removable strainer pierced like the handles. Pl. 55 of the same publication shows the pierced vine design in another form.
