"Morellet took part in Edition MAT at the urging of Karl Gerstner, who knew the members of GRAV through their mutual involvement in the Nouvelle Tendance group. Morellet's contribution consits of three wire-mesh screens superimposed on a painted wood background, all set within a metal frame. As the viewer moves back and forth in front of the work, the layered grids create shifting optical effects. The grids can also conceivably by reordered to create alternative superimpositions [...] The use of metal mesh, an industrial product not crafted by Morellet himself, was perhaps another way for the artist to distance the work from his own hand."
