Abdallah al-Marwarid (d.1525) served as a vizir in the ministry of correspondence under Sultan Husayn Bayqara (r.1649-1506). He was a skilled calligrapher and bibliophile, author also of a poem titled Khosraw and Shirin. After the fall of Herat in 1511 he joined the court of Shah Ismail I (r.1501-24) for whom he wrote a chronical. Another calligraphic exercise copied by him and signed Abdallah Bayani is now in the Ahmad Soheyli Collection (published in A. Soudavar, Art of the Persian Courts, New York, 1992, p.157).
