Description

Property from a Prominent Private Collection

A CAUCASIAN 'DRAGON' CARPET FRAGMENT

17th Century

fragment approximately 460 by 60cm; 466 by 63 cm. including mount

Please note: Condition 9 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers for this sale is not applicable to this lot.

The fragment offered here is closely related to three fragments from the Mosque of Ali Paşa in Tokat, illustrated in Yetkin, Şerare, Early Caucasian Carpets in Turkey, Vol. I, London, 1978, pl. 11 and is possibly from the same carpet; compare for example the ‘fishbone’ spine of the dragon and the small cloudbands.
