A lengthy letter from the President to Lemuel Clarke Davis, editor of the Philadelphia Public Ledger
Davis was a personal friend as well as a political supporter, and Cleveland's letter reflect both sides of their relationship. "My dear friend," Cleveland begins. "I was a good deal touched when I read your Harpers Correspondence which I herewith return..."
Davis worked for The Philadelphia Inquirer before becoming an editor of the Philadelphia Public Ledger, and he also contributed to Harper's.
