A Meissen porcelain yellow-ground snuff-box with gold mounts, circa 1740


of upright cartouche form, painted with Venetian views after Melchior Küsel, within black-line gilt quatrefoil cartouches, the body with four plain moulded bands gilt with diaper pattern, richly gilt to the interior, the slightly domed cover with similar decoration and a view of a further waterside palazzo to the interior, the base painted to simulate basketwork in purple and iron-red reserved with indianische Blumen, within a narrow shagreen-pattern border, the gold mounts with scroll thumbpiece, incised inventory number to the border of the interior of the cover
