The design of the carving is similar to that found on armchairs supplied in the 1750s by the Wakefield firm of Wright & Elwick to the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham at Wentworth Woodhouse, Yorkshire and the 5th Duke of Bolton at Hackwood Park, Hampshire.
