The present basket forms the the terminal of a table centrpiece, broken down over t.mes to be shared among family members. By family tradition this centrepiece was originally presented to the Liberal radical reformer Joseph Hume M.P. (1877-1855). Sir Robert Peel described him as "the man for the t.mes s" with the welfare for his constituency and the country his ruling principle.
