Kemble, photogravure plate of a portrait bust of Clemens by Karl Gerhardt (BAL state 1), title-leaf is a cancel with copyright notice on verso dated 1884, (additional BAL issue points: page [13], state 1; page 57, state 1; leaf 283, state 3; page 155, state 1); occasional spotting, particularly to frontispiece. Publisher's pictorial green cloth, stamped in black and gilt with portrait of Huckleberry Finn, light peach endpapers; slight rubbing to extremities, head-, and foot-pieces, some minor staining. 


First American edition, early issue of this classic American novel.
