The clock model of the Dead Bird or the Lost Love was popularized by François Vion's drawing n°31 (published in H. Ott.mes yer et P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, t.I, p. 247, n°4.6.9), which obviously inspired the composition of this clock. However, the structure is more refined and much rarer. The clockmaker Pierre-Antoine Regnault (1731-1809), received master in 1754, was reknown for his skeletonised movements and Joseph Coteau (1740-1801) was the most famous Parisian enameller during 18th century.

Le modèle de pendule à l'Oiseau mort ou l'Amour perdu fut popularisé par le dessin n°31 du bronzier François Vion (conservé à la biblothèque Jacques Doucet de l'INHA et reproduit dans H. Ott.mes yer et P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen, t.I, p. 247, n°4.6.9). La composition de cette pendule s'en inspire, tout en offrant une construction plus recherchée et constituant donc une version plus rare. Pierre-Antoine Regnault (1731-1809), horloger reçu maître en 1754, était renommé notamment pour ses mouvements squelettes et Joseph Coteau (1740-1801) fut le plus célèbre émailleur parisien du XVIIIe siècle.
